History |
Establishment of Pune Central Parish, later known as ‘St. Antony’s Malankara Catholic Parish’, came into being with the aspirations of certain laity leaders, who had taken initiative in conducting prayer meetings and occasional Holy Qurbana, in the residences of the laity or at the Latin Church, with the help of reverent fathers from Bethany Ashram Ramwadi. The appointment of Rev. Fr.Antony Valiaviliyil DIC as the Chaplain of Pune Malankarites, by the Bishop of Pune in 1983 culminated the said aspirations. The jurisdiction of St. Antony’s Malankara Catholic Church, which was established as a personal Parish, vide a Decree dated 5th Nov. 1998, by the Bishop of Pune, is spread over an area from Hadapsar and its suburbs through Vadagaonsheri, Vishrantwadi through Dhanori and to Dighi, with over 70 families .The community services in Pune central began since 1980 with Eucharistic services being conducted at Todiwalla Church, which then grew to St Antony’s in 1998. The current strength of the parish is of 85 families. |
